How scary. The Boston Marathon finish line turned into a scene of chaos on Apr. 15 when two powerful explosions went off close the finish line. The marathon’s organizers and the Vice President have both referred to the explosions as a bombing.
Two explosions shockingly went off on Apr. 15 in Copley Square in Boston, Mass., the location of the finish line of the Boston Marathon. As of now, it appears that the powerful explosions that killed at least two people and injured at least 28 more was not an accident. The race’s organizers and Vice President Joe Biden have confirmed that they were a result of bombs.
Boston Marathon Explosions Were A ‘Bombing’
In a statement released by the Vice President, he called the explosions “a bombing,” adding, ”Our prayers are with those people in Boston who have suffered injuries. I don't know how many there are. I don’t know any of the details of what caused it, who did it, but our prayers are with the people of Boston,” according to White House correspondent Matt Viser.
Additionally, the Boston Marathon’s organizers released a statement on their Facebook page confirming the bombing: “There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today’s Boston Marathon. We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened,” the statement said.
And NBC Nightly News is reporting that a homemade bomb may be the cause of this horrific act: “Small homemade bomb is preliminary cause of explosion at Boston Marathon,” read their tweet. At least two more explosive devices have reportedly been found at the marathon, according to the Associated Press.
